Wisconsin has a rich history of protecting wild lands for public use, including lakes, shorelands and wetlands, through the Wisconsin Land Stewardship Trust.
The Problem: The Governor’s proposed budget does away with both the state subsidy for municipal recycling programs as well as the state mandate for such programs.
The Problem: The proposed biennial budget bill rolls back regulations designed to protect waterways from weed-producing phosphorus and other pollutants that wash from streets and construction sites.
The Problem: Aerial fireworks, now used to celebrate many events in Wisconsin, result in heavy metals and toxic perchlorates being released into the air we breathe and water we consume.
Whereas: – Fishing tournaments occur frequently on Bayfield County Lakes; and
Whereas: Fireworks are now promoted year ’round as a means of celebration; and
The Problem: Some who violate laws prohibiting transport of aquatic invasive species and/or aquatic plants are not affected enough by the fine to cause a change in their behavior.
